Court Ruling Upholds Silica Standard, Protects Workers
January 9, 2018 - CLDC LMCC LECETCourt Ruling Upholds Silica Standard, Protects Workers
The hard-working men and women of LIUNA and fellow building tradesmen and women will be safer on the job with the recent D.C. Circuit Court decision to uphold OSHA's silica rule.
While the Court rejected the addition of medical removal conditions to the rule, the Court remanded the question to OSHA for further consideration. Medical removal would require employers to protect employees from exposure when recommended by a medical provider.
LIUNA and our allies in the Building Trades have advocated for a stronger standard on silica for many years. The court ruling is a victory which will help protect millions of construction workers from silica-related diseases.
